This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, Toyota gives the MR2 Spyder a bolder look in front with a new bumper and fascia, dual-bulb projector-style headlights and integrated standard foglamps. The side air intakes are revised and now color-keyed. In rear, the MR2 is distinguished by new combination lamps with cylindrical turn signals and reverse lights that mimic the dual-bulb look of the headlights. Further, the rear grille garnishes combines body-color vertical ribs and mesh to emphasize the midengine design. A larger oval chrome tailpipe puts the emphasis on performance capability, and a new power antenna contributes to the roadster's clean lines. Inside, instrument panel graphics have been revised, and there are new chrome trim accents. Additionally, the leather seating packages -- black or tan -- now include matching color convertible tops. Mechanically, an all-new six-speed sequential manual transmission (SMT) is optional, replacing last year's five-speed SMT. Toyota has also upped the rear wheels to 16 inches in diameter.

Pros:
  • Lively and precise handling dynamics, scores high on the fun scale, available SMT transmission, affordable compared to other European-brand roadsters.
Cons:
  • Severe lack of storage space, bland interior design, not many safety features available.

This is the most fun car you will ever own. You will need another car to haul your stuff, but this car makes a nice weekend driving fun. Took the car up the mountain graded and curves and it handles very good. Hope Toyota keeps the numbers very low on building. This will keep the resale value very high for this car. If you need storage this is not the car for you.

I wanted a car for ME. I got one. I have had so much fun driving my convertible and love to see heads turn to see what it is Im driving! To put the top down and just hit the trail is awesome. You definitely learn how to pack light and take your bare essentials, but I knew that when I bought it. I went, I saw, I bought, and Im still excited and having a blast.

I bought my MR2 at the end of July 2003. August 14 2003 an individual ran a red light "at a high rate of speed" sais the police report and tore the front of my new car off. I walked away. Bruise on my knee, some pain in my chest and my left wrist hurts a bit but I walked away. Ive ordered another one. Hopefully that one will see more than 912 miles.

This is not my daily car, I have a Camry. The MR2 is awesome, great handling, stopping, & gas mileage. Even with spirited driving it still gets an average of 31 mpg. I have problems when I drive because wife or 6 year old son always want to ride in it, do they make one with 3 seats? Just kidding. Also seals great - even in the torrential florida rain this car does not leak, have 2 other relatives who own Miatas. They both said all convertibles leak til I proved them wrong with my Toyota, plus the MR2 has much stiffer chassis less twitching & no rattles, again better that Miatas.

I love this car! People talegate sometimes because they are not sure what make/model it is. When the car is not moving and people are able to ask about the car they are usually surprised it is a Toyota! (It looks similar to the Porche Boxter.) When it is parked, people come right up and ask questions about the car. Despite being low priced, it is a rare car. It is very quick to accelerate due to the weight/power ratio and it gets 35 mpg!

I got mine only 4 months and love. Love it since the day I saw it on the road. Which is very rare to see one. Since I got mine, only seen 2 other times.

Took the spyder to Victoria, BC. A management challenge in fitting both mine and wifes luggage into the small box behind the seats. Even stuff a small suitcase into the well where the top folds in. 1000 miles up and 1000 mils back. Besides getting by with minimal luggage, this car was fun and I believe safe as it can outrun any truck or suv on the highway. Around town, no one can even come close. Attracted lots of attention as this car is not available in Canada. Good mileage on top of speed, handling and style. Have not had this much fun for a long time.
